Developed from the flow direction layer, the flow
accumulation data set defines the number of cells which
flow into each downslope cell. Since the cell size of the
HYDRO1k data set is 1 km, the flow accumulation value
translates directly into upstream drainage areas in square
kilometers. Values range from 0 at topographic highs to
very large numbers (on the order of millions of square
kilometers) at the mouths of large rivers.
